Formed in Lancashire in 1969 around the nucleus of three brothers, John, Lea and Neil Heather, Quiet World was a studio recording project perhaps best known for being the first album to feature future GENESIS guitarist STEVE HACKETT (and with a guest appearance from Steve's brother, John). Signed to Pye Records' progressive imprint, Dawn, the band's sole album was The Road, issued in August 1970. An impressive concept album, Quiet World's sole LP is now a hugely in demand collector's item. Shortly thereafter, Steve Hackett left to join the progressive rock group Genesis as lead guitarist.

2017 release from the Athens, GA-based indie rockers. Elf Power are part of the legendary Elephant Six Collective. This 2017 album is released on the band's own Orange Twin Records, that has released almost 50 albums since 2001, including releases by Neutral Milk Hotel, Vic Chesnutt, Jeff Mangum, Jack Logan, Nana Grizol, Gerbils and many more. Orange Twin Records works in conjunction with The Orange Twin Conservation Community, 155 acres of beautiful land on the outskirts of Athens, GA that has initiated the development of a highly progressive, self-sustainable and ecologically-minded cluster village and nature preserve. Elf Power began as a four-track recording project. These recording sessions eventually resulted in the first incarnation of their debut album. Since then, they've become a respected and entirely unpredictable musical entity.

Kevin Patrick, aka Field Medic, begins his first properly realized album, Fade into the Dawn, with one of the sharpest opening lines in indie rock history. "Used 2 Be a Romantic" finds its protagonist, the mid-level touring musician in a loud dive bar, defeatedly proclaiming "I need a cigarette, those fuckers talked over my whole set." These are the first words we hear on an album rich with Patrick's uniquely intimate style, one that blends aching narratives with understated humor and optimism. Along with the lament of the touring musician leaning on alcohol to get through a rough night, Patrick's songs offer emotionally raw portrayals of self-acceptance, anxiety, and sweetly hopeful excitement.

Mountainsides is a noisy folk/rock/psych band from Austin, Texas. In early 2015, songwriter Nathaniel Janes and bass player Todd Pruner met and discovered a shared fondness for drone and noise music and decided to collaborate. Keyboard player John Constant and drummer Matt Smith soon joined to round out the sound. The band self-released their debt "Thorne EP" in November, 2015. Together the band have further honed their sound and created "Dead Man Summer," a haunted album of songs set against an eclectic mix of sounds including steel guitars, synthesizers, melodica, and autoharp. Depending on the light, listeners may hear the influence of Neutral Milk Hotel, Willie Nelson, R.E.M., or The Velvet Underground, sometimes simultaneously.

As the Elephant 6 catalog continues to expand, it becomes increasingly obvious that many of the label's bands are concerned not merely with creating fresh and exciting music but rather entire mythologies, crafting obscure concept records exploring the intricacies of strange pocket universes. Existing in the musical gray area between Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel – both of whose members make cameos here – Elf Power's superb When the Red King Comes is a heady journey to a psychedelic utopia, a travelogue with such destinations as "The Secret Ocean," "The Separating Fault," and "The Silver Lake." As imagined primarily by singer/songwriter Andrew Rieger, the album is a odyssey "Into the Everlasting Time," and true to its word, it seems to exist outside of any obvious era – the fuzzy, lo-fi production is an Elephant 6 hallmark, but the unique instrumentation (electric horns, pump organs, even Nepalese percussion) and cryptic, stream-of-consciousness wordplay suggest something altogether different; perhaps most telling is When the Red King Comes' cover, a crazed map suggesting something out of a J.R.R. Tolkien fever dream.
