So charakterisierte der Spiegel in einem Artikel von 1965 den natürlichen Gesangsstil von Hermann Prey, der mit seiner lässigen Art als sängerischer Gegenpart des intellektuellen Romantikers Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau gelten kann. Am 11. Juli 2019 wäre Hermann Prey 90 Jahre alt geworden. Aus diesem Anlass bringt Deutsche Grammophon jetzt ein digitales Album heraus, das 25 Essentials des großen Baritons versammelt. Die Kompilation feiert den charismatischen Sänger als einen begnadeten Verwandlungskünstler, der sich auf kokette Mozartrollen genauso glänzend verstand wie auf den oft tragischen Ernst des romantischen Kunstlieds.

Den auf Ludovico Ariosts „Orlando furioso“ (Der rasende Roland/1516) basierenden Stoff hatte ein unbekannter Bearbeiter nach dem Libretto von Carlo Sigismondo Capece (Rom 1711) erstellt und eine ganze Reihe Veränderungen vorgenommen, die Händels Oper zu einer seiner originellsten Londoner Opern werden ließ.

Neues vom Tage (News of the Day) is an opera (lustige Oper) in three parts by Paul Hindemith, with a German libretto by Marcellus Schiffer.
The opera is a satire of modern life, celebrity and marriage, involving parodies of both Puccini's music and Berlin cabaret. The opera became notorious for a scene with a naked soprano (Laura) singing in the bath about the wonders of modern plumbing, though Hindemith replaced her with the tenor (Hermann) in the revised version.

In it he describes the 12 months of the calendar and in a thirteenth poem a fictitious “leap month”, which he then rejects again.
