Less isn’t always more. In 2014, the Dutch-Zimbabwean artist Rina Mushonga released The Wild, the Wilderness, a pleasant but mild debut record that didn’t look much further than the coffeehouse for inspiration. But a recent move from Amsterdam to Peckham, a culturally diverse community in London’s South End, has unlatched something grand in Mushonga. Her sophomore album, In a Galaxy, is expansive, integrating sounds gathered from her native country and her newfound home in the UK. Thinking big suits Mushonga, and over the course of this 12-track LP, she dramatizes the banal trappings of daily life with her fortifying melodies, making a case for maximalist, ecstatic pop as a balm for it all.

"Let's Dance" is the 15th studio album by English musician David Bowie. It was originally released in April 1983, almost three years after his previous album, "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)". Co-produced by Chic's Nile Rodgers, the album contains three of his most successful singles: the title track, "Let's Dance", which reached #1 in the UK, US and various other countries, as well as "Modern Love" and "China Girl", which both reached #2 in the UK. "China Girl" was a new version of a song that Bowie had co-written with Iggy Pop for the latter's 1977 album "The Idiot". It also contains a re-recorded version of the song "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)", which had reached #1 in New Zealand, Norway and Sweden a year earlier.

In late 1985, there was good reason to believe that Marilyn Martin would become a pop/rock superstar. Her duet with Phil Collins, "Separate Lives," soared to number one on the pop charts, and her supporters assumed that she was going to become as big as Stevie Nicks, Laura Branigan or Pat Benatar. But regrettably, Martin's commercial success turned out to be short-lived – after 1988's This Is Serious, she was dropped by Atlantic and never recorded another album. Nonetheless, the Southern vocalist had a lot of potential, and she showed considerable promise on this self-titled debut album of 1986.

Russ Ballard's eponymous 1984 album and its sequel, The Fire Still Burns, were reissued on a single disc by Renaissance Records in 1996. Both albums are fairly spotty, but they have enough highlights to make this worthwhile for dedicated fans of Ballard or his former band Argent.

…The resulting album offered lean, crisp, and generally bracing accounts of the group's then-current sound – a mix of pop/rock highlighted by some prodigious musicianship – and a four-minute glimpse of its progressive rock past in the guise of the "In the Cage Medley," containing "Cinema Show" from Selling England by the Pound. Phil Collins is in good voice throughout and the playing is often impressive, achieving some excitement and intimacy despite the arena-sized audiences to which the group was now playing…

"Use Me" introduces and throws the spotlight on the fantastic voice of Singaporean vocalist Vanessa Fernandez. This album of audiophile quality covers of Soul and R&B classics from the 70s and 80s was done in an 'unplugged' style with acoustic instruments and arrangements used on all of the tracks. Vocals are tremendously dynamic (no compression or limiting used), with superb presence and detail for all other instruments including the drum set. Resolution is of the highest order and this is an LP that rewards for both musical performance and outstanding audio quality.
