Neverwas, a film starring Ian McKellen, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Nolte, Brittany Murphy, Jessica Lange and William Hurt , is a fantasy-mystery with a bold, playful and fantastical score by Philip Glass. Neverwas never received wide distribution and was largely forgotten. The 53 minute Glass score possesses some of Glass most accessible and heartfelt music.

The Juniper Tree is an opera composed by Philip Glass and Robert Moran with a libretto by Arthur Yorinks, and is based on the tale by the Brothers Grimm. The opera was first produced in 1985 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge Massachusetts.
This very grim story of death, rebirth, and love is accompanied by wonderful music. This collaboration between composers Philip Glass and Robert Moran yielded an incredibly lyrical and compelling score

We found a recording of 13 Melodies for Solo Saxophone when we were building the Philip Glass recording archive. As I listened to this wonderful recording of Andrew Sterman's performances, I was struck by the beautiful simplicity and purity of these compositions, they seemed to portray the very essence of much of Philip Glass' music. I knew that this particular recording was made as 'incidental' music for Joanne Akalaitis' Theatrical production of Jean Genet's Prisoner Of Love in 1995, but upon further research I found that the Melodies were actually a sketch book for the Saxophone Concerto which was commissioned by the world renowned Rascher Saxophone Quartet.

Orange Mountain Music’s new release of “Philip Glass – ANALOG” contains three seminal works in Glass’s musical history. In the late 1970’s, Philip Glass was asked by two film producers, François de Menil and Barbara Rose, to write music for a film they were producing. The film was “Mark di Suvero, Sculptor” and it was Glass’s first film score, predating even Koyaanisqatsi. The score took its titles from the names of di Suvero sculptures shown in the film, including Etoile Polaire (North Star) and others. Dressed like an Egg is a never before released early Glass score which was written as incidental music to a Mabou Mines Theater Company production in 1977.

A year ago Philip Glass handpicked some pianists to perform all of his Etudes together at the Barbican in London. Víkingur Ólafsson was one of them and according to the press he was “the highlight of the evening” (Sean and Heard International). The Financial Times claimed: “Best of all was Ólafsson in the supersensitive stillness of Etude 5”.

'The Concerto Project Vol. III' is the penultimate release in a series of four albums to be issued by Orange Mountain Music documenting the eight Philip Glass concertos to date. Volume III includes Glass's 'Concerto Grosso' commissioned by the City of Bonn for the opening of the Stadtische Kunstmuseum in the German city in 1992. Each movement of the Concerto Grosso is written for a distinctive group of instruments - the winds, brass and strings, which together make up a symphonic ensemble. In this live 1993 recording it is played by the Beethoven Orchester Bonn conducted by long-time Glass associate Dennis Russell Davies, the musicians who premiered the work - under its original title of Concerto for Three Ensembles - in June 1992. The second concerto is Glass's 'Concerto for Saxophone Quartet', performed by its dedicatees, the internationally renowned Raschèr Saxophone Quartet who premiered the piece at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 1995.

In 2002 Philip Glass composed the soundtrack score to the Stephen Daldry film "The Hours". The film went on to receive 9 Acadamy Awards nominations, including one for ‘best score’. At the beginning of the film, Daldry depicts the timelessness of small daily events, how the real elements of life are patterns that repeat across time. The movie opens with three women from three different eras intercut, all doing similar things. There's Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman) in 1923, a troubled young mother (Julianne Moore) in 1951 and a woman (Meryl Streep) in 2001 making preparations for a party later that evening. In one location flowers are bought, in another displayed, in another discarded. Philip Glass' score intensely underlines the images with a sense of strangeness and sympathy. Michael Riesman, Mr. Glass’ longtime musical director and producer of the film score recordings, created solo piano adaptations of the original score and has been performing them in concert.
