Petra Praise… The Rock Cries Out is the eleventh studio album of the Christian rock band, Petra and their first praise album. It was released on October 3, 1989 by DaySpring Records, marking the band's return to the Word family as the early version of Petra was signed to sister label Myrrh. The music is mostly a collection of traditional praise songs with a rock style. However, there are two original songs, both written by band founder Bob Hartman. The sound is a little different vocally especially, because the keys were chosen for ease of use by youth groups and not necessarily to showcase John Schlitt's voice.
Rick Wakeman spent much of the '80s and '90s recording instrumental albums that veered toward either classical or ambient, so 2003's Out There comes as a bit of a shock: it's an honest to goodness revival of the full-throttle prog rock Wakeman pursued on his solo albums in the '70s. A large part of this is due to his decision to form a full-fledged supporting rock band. Called the New English Rock Ensemble, they're a quintet led by Wakeman and featuring Damian Wilson on vocals, Ant Glynne on guitar, Lee Pomeroy on bass, and Tony Fernandez on drums and percussion. They're a powerful and skilled outfit, able to follow Wakeman's shifting tempos and moods with dexterity without ever losing sight of their forceful rhythmic core, which keeps this rock, not new age.
Signed by major label Mercury, Norwegians PIONEERS released this debut album "In A State Of Rock" in 1984. The album has become a huge collectors items, cause the band featured none other as later Stage Dolls members Torstein Flakne and Steinar Krokstad plus bass player Morten Skaget, which later changed his name to Morty Black and became a member of TNT. Their musical style was the incipient Scandinavian Melodic Rock / AOR sound of the mid-Eighties; anthemic poppy choruses ready for the arenas, something that catapulted Europe to stardom two years after. You can easily figure out here where the Stage Dolls sound comes from! First time ever on CD, digitally remastered and only limited quantities!
