Rock Rhythm Doo Wop

The Marcels were an American doo-wop group known for turning popular music songs into rock and roll. They are known primarily for their novelty-tinged cover of "Blue Moon". The group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and signed to Colpix Records, with lead Cornelius Harp, bass Fred Johnson, Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy, and Richard Knauss. The group was named after a popular hair style of the day, the marcel wave.

Neil Sedaka was one of the first serious singer/songwriters in pop and this is the most comprehensive set of his early career ever released. Featured are two original albums in their entirety 'Neil Sedaka' and 'Circulate' plus the hits "I Go Ape", "Oh Carol", "Stairway To Heaven" and more. Neil Sedaka is still going strong today and in 2011 a stage musical of his life and career will open in London's West End.

Set aside as marginal, the rest have been left ignored due to the debatable and apparently set in stone statement that the history of Spanish rock starts with the legendary festivals at Madrid's Price venue promoted by musician Pepe Nieto, then drummer in Los Pekenikes. Without wanting to reduce in the slightest the importance of those shows as a revitalizing element of Spain's rock scene, the start date of those famed Madrid matinees (end of 1962) doesn't respect the fact that at the end of the '50s, and at the pace that the autarkic Spanish society of the time allowed, the foreign young rhythms slowly reached the country with the healthy intention to stay and make people dance.
