"A Single Man" is the twelfth studio album by British singer/songwriter Elton John, released in 1978, two years after his intended last album "Blue Moves", and one year after the release of "Elton John's Greatest Hits Volume II". It is the first album John created without his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin or his longtime Producer Gus Dudgeon. As Gary Osborne was an unknown at the time, many people have misinterpreted the album's title to imply that Elton wrote the entire album himself.
"Tumbleweed Connection" is the third album by Elton John. It is a concept album based on the Country and Western/Americana themes. All songs are written by Bernie Taupin and Elton John with the exception of "Love Song" by Lesley Duncan. It was recorded at Trident Studios, London, England in March 1970 and released in October 1970. It peaked at #6 on the UK Album chart and #5 on the US Billboard Pop chart in 1971.
The album did not chart any singles. In 2003, the album was ranked #463 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
"Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" is the sixth studio album by British singer/songwriter Elton John.
The album was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic, topping the UK and US album charts and selling about 14 million copies worldwide.
"Don't Shoot Me …" was also, according to John, the first album during which he felt comfortable experimenting with his vocal performances and style.
The early '80s were not a particularly focused time in Elton John's career. The Fox (1981) is a reflection of the tentative regrouping that began on his previous effort, 21 at 33 (1979). In fact, a third of the material was left over from the same August 1979 sessions. This results in dithering musical styles and ultimately yields an uneven and at times somewhat dated sound…
By 1976, the immense creativity that had spurred Elton John to record 11 studio albums in under seven years was beginning to show signs of inevitable fatigue. Although initially Blue Moves was summarily dismissed by both critics as well as longtime enthusiasts, the double LP has since gained considerable stature within John's voluminous catalog. While comparisons were inevitable to the landmark two-disc Goodbye Yellow Brick Road song cycle from 1973, most similarities in musical style and content end there.
