after a five year gap, Ms Turner has released this latest album – a 14 tracker that reflects the diversity manifest in her career. 'All That I Am' proffers all kinds of flavours but the most prominent is catchy pop/soul with a hint of AOR – the kind of music that sits easily on the playlist of Radio 2. 'Hello Baby', 'Fire In My Heart', 'Move On' and the lightly reggae-flavoured 'Putting You First' are good examples of what I mean. Pleasant and innocuous, Ruby, I'm sure, could knock stuff like this out in her sleep.
He’s been hailed “The Voice Of Rock”, and for good reason, as this 7 CD live box set ably testifies. With vocals soaked in blues and soul, Glenn Hughes has played with and fronted many legends of rock, including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Hughes-Thrall, Trapeze and Black Country Communion.
After his heyday in the 1930s with the hit "I'se Muggin'," jazz violinist Stuff Smith was sporadically recorded over the remainder of his career, which ended with his death in 1967. But that hasn't stopped collectors from seeking and issuing long overlooked broadcasts, telecasts, and private recordings. While a cursory look at the song list on the back cover might make one think that this CD is compiled with tracks from earlier Smith releases on Storyville, that is not the case, as only one song has previously appeared anywhere, while most of the repertoire will be familiar to his longtime fans…
Worldclass. Nothing less. They are getting better year by year and at the same time they are developing a style of their own in the domain of modern tango that was originally created by the maestro Astor Piazzola…
The acclaimed melodic rock outfit SEVEN return with their second album 'Shattered', out via Escape Music September 23. SEVEN originate from the AOR scene in the late eighties where Polydor records having been fairly successful in the U.K with the likes of Magnum and Little Angels, set their sights on SEVEN, a relatively unknown act that had started life as a successful South African group, reformed to hit the big time in the UK. SEVEN toured extensively supporting an eclectic variety of acts that included the likes of Jason Donovan, Richard Marx, The Monkees and Brother Beyond. Entering the recording studios, with John Parr at the production helm…
Artillery is one of these bands that never got recognition they deserve. Hailing from Denmark, they’re one of the biggest classic metal forces in their country, but somehow they never managed to achieve worldwide success. Of course, those who listen to thrash metal at a regular basis surely know who these guys are, but it’s not the popularity Anthrax or Testament reached (not to speak about Metallica or Slayer)…
Everybody who is interested in blues, knows about Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado, who’s been entertaining blueslovers all over the world for the past 19 years with their spectacular shows and releases. Fewer people know that Thorbjørn Risager and Tornado-pianoman Emil Balsgaard have a history together which goes much further back in time. Their partnership began 27 years ago when they met in a New Orleans style blues ’n’ funk band called Rad Gumbo. Thorbjørn and Emil have spent the covid19-lockdown recording their third duoalbum entitled Taking The Good With The Bad. The album shows that their love for that special New Orleans style blues ’n’ funk has not faded. The album contains pulverising boogie blues, a sweet touch of caribian rhythms and low down dirty funk.
Bent Sørensen’s 12 Nocturnes comprise a collection of short pieces of great expressive weight. It is wonderfully atmospheric music with a vibrating magical sound that recalls the stars at night, miles above us. Where Chopin’s iconic 19th century nocturnes are dark and full of unease, Bent Sørensen’s music is luminous, a sounding prism for the tonal spectrum, the nocturne retransformed in the 21st century.
