Paris is a live album by progressive rock band Supertramp, released in 1980. The album was recorded on Supertramp's Breakfast in America tour in November 1979 in Paris, France.
Supertramp Live In Paris '79 is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Eagle Vision (an imprint of Eagle Rock Entertainment) with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1. The concert was evidently originally filmed in 16mm, and for that small scale format, things look remarkably good here. In fact, they might look a little too good, especially in some isolated shots. While there's quite a bit of grain and fuzziness in the wide shots and even midrange shots (as should be expected of this format), some of the close-ups look awfully clean, which makes me a little suspicious that perhaps some DNR has been applied.
It Was the Best of Times is a live album by Supertramp. The title makes use of the opening line from A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It was recorded in London at the Royal Albert Hall during the It's About Time tour in September 1997. This CD also features the song "Don't You Lie To Me" a blues song that the band had performed on their 1988 tour and the only song not written by a current or former band member. The band is augmented by additional players added for this album and tour as well as Slow Motion, the followup studio album recorded and released in 2002.
Roger Hodgson is the voice of Supertramp. Co-founding the band in 1969, he was the lead singer and writer of nearly all their hits throughout the band's heyday in the seventies and early eighties. Since leaving Supertramp in 1983 he has had a series of critically acclaimed and successful solo albums and come through a major accident in the late eighties that threatened his entire career. This DVD, the first live release from either Roger or Supertramp, was filmed in Montreal and catches Roger Hodgson at his very best.
Recorded during the following tour after the highly sucessful "Breakfast In America" album in November 1979,it captures their tight live perfomance perfectly. The songs performed here are very faithful to to original songs, but they sound really fresh and renovated. This one is definitely essential for fans especially... This GREAT Supertramp's live album is a double LP record. The sound is excellent, and the instruments are very well balanced. There is a pleasant live atmosphere and bottom low frequency sound, with just the right amount of ambient echo, so that it gives you the impression that you really attend this show! It seems that the electric guitars are slightly more distorted and hard rock than on the studio album. On "School", you don't know if the young girl's shout is from the excited crowd or pre-recorded like on the studio album. The French crowd is favorably responding. The chosen tracks are obviously sure values: "School", "Logical song", "Bloody well right", "From now on", "Hide in your shell", "Dreamer", "Take a long way home" and "Breakfast in America", among others. The famous French spoken words "(Bonsoir Paris et bienvenue a une soiree avec Supertramp! Nous sommes très heureux de jouer a Paris)", just before "The Logical song", are quite friendly! How about the other charming French words about the breakfast taken by the musician before the "Breakfast in America" song begins? "Hiding in your shell" and "Fool's overture" are particularly remarkable. This is a quality live album.
