Hannah, who wears a hearing aid, is forced to go on holiday. On holiday she manages to find a job: caring for Josef, a burn victim on an oil rig who temporarily lost his sight, until he's stable enough to be transferred. There is almost no one on the rig, except a cook, an oceanographer and a few others out at sea. Hannah tends to Josef and he slowly breaks her shell of silence.

Never one to disappoint, this is another fine "real deal" blues album from the West Coast cat who wastes no notes and no time (neither yours nor his). Most of Keep the Mojo Workin' was recorded live, with just a few overdubbed solos, and was completed in just two sessions. You'll find instrumental tributes to Anson Funderburgh, Jimmie Vaughan, and Ray's late great boss, William Clarke. You also get some Billy Gibbons harmonics and early-'60s style B.B. King/Duke Jethro sounds. Covers include Albert Collins' "Backstroke," Little Walter's "Mean Old World," Eddie Taylor's immortal 1955 hit "Bad Boy," Jimmy Reed's laconic shuffle "You Don't Have to Go," and the Elmore James classic "I Believe." In addition to some great West Coast, Texas, and Chicago blues guitar playing, Ray takes to the Hammond B-3 on four of the songs. This one also showcases Charlie Chavez on vocals and harp and Stan Powell on chromatic harp.

Two artists had an enormous impact on Eric Clapton's music in the '70s: Delaney & Bonnie and J.J. Cale. Clapton joined Delaney & Bonnie's backing band after Cream dissolved, an experience that helped him ease away from the bombast of the power trio and into the blend of soul, blues, pop, and rock that defined his solo sound. Delaney Bramlett helped steer Clapton's eponymous 1970 solo debut, which not only came very close to replicating the sound of Delaney & Bonnie's records from that time, but also had a rollicking version of J.J. Cale's "After Midnight" that was Clapton's first solo hit.

A highly styled 'genre' film which can perhaps be seen as a pastiche of all gangster movies. Tom Reagan is the laconic anti-hero of this amoral tale which is also, paradoxically, a look at morals within the criminal underworld of the 1930s. Two rival gangs vie for control of a city where the police are pawns, and the periodic busts of illicit drinking establishments are no more than a way for one gang to get back at the other. Black humour and shocking violence compete for screen time as we question whether or not Tom, right-hand man of the Irish mob leader, really has a heart.

1949, Santa Rosa, California. A laconic, chain-smoking barber with fallen arches tells a story of a man trying to escape a humdrum life. It's a tale of suspected adultery, blackmail, foul play, death, Sacramento city slickers, racial slurs, invented war heroics, shaved legs, a gamine piano player, aliens, and Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Ed Crane cuts hair in his in-law's shop; his wife drinks and may be having an affair with her boss, Big Dave, who has $10,000 to invest in a second department store. Ed gets wind of a chance to make money in dry cleaning. Blackmail and investment are his opportunity to be more than a man no one notices. Settle in the chair and listen.
