The Wall "interpreted by more prestigious and sometimes improbable guests all (only a priori because the choice is judicious) ones that others. Who more is, it is "The Wall" interpreted in "No man' S Land" of the place, Berlin Wall highly symbolic system and even more at the time of the concert, at the time of the reunification of both Allemagnes… The sound is * excellent *, quite simply. The spectacle is inevitably of exception: Scorpions which attacks "In the flesh" while unloading in limo on scene and launching "Hello Berlin!". Brian Adams with "What shall we do?" and "Young lust". Van Morrison with "Comfortably numb" and Thomas Dolby suspended along the wall with its rope..

Qui plus est, c'est "The Wall" interprété dans le "no man's land" du mur de Berlin, lieu hautement symbolique et encore plus à l'époque du concert, lors de la réunification des deux Allemagnes…

A multitude of classic rockers/prog rockers have united to cover the Wall in it's entirety, under the title Back Against the Wall. Led by producer Billy Sherwood, a rotating case of musicians was assembled to make anyone with a well-worn copy of Tales of Topographic Oceans drool with excitement - Yes' Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire, Alan White, and Geoffrey Downes; King Crimson's Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and John Wetton; Styx's Tommy Shaw; ELP's Keith Emerson, and Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, among countless others. Interestingly though, it can be argued that the Wall was Pink Floyd's least "progressive" album, as the group focused on tight song structures - obviously inspired by the then burgeoning new wave and punk movements. The performances are expectedly spot-on (and it's quite impressive how they re-created all the sound effects/spoken word bits so precisely), and stick very close to the originals - except for a Chris Squire-led take of "Comfortably Numb," which adds a few extra bits.

The album title refers to the Victorian house where four Scots took refuge during his exile in London becoming the mansion into a genuine commune dedicated to music, art and God knows what else in the early 70s. A pleasant surprise, it is true that there were thousands of bands like this at the time but Writing on the Wall is at hand now…

Mojo presents Pink Floyd's 1979 Masterpiece Re-recorded: The Wall Re-Built is a tribute and testament to the power of the original album. For the past 30 years The Wall has fascinated both fans and musicians in equal measure, its claustrophobic qualities reflecting the alienation and disenchantment that assailed its principal architect. The biggest selling double album of all-time, the LP itself has also exerted a magnetic influence on fellow musicians, its themes of isolation and egotism possessing a particular fascination. Its appeal among musicians has allowed MOJO to assemble what has been one of our most ambitious projects to date in the shape of this exclusive two disc tribute to Pink Floyd's 1979 masterpiece. As with Disc One, we invite you once again to check out the individual work of all the artists involved with this second instalment of The Wall Re-Built, and to revel in the new perspectives offered by this unique celebration. MOJO has hand-picked a series of contemporary artists and given them free rein to reinterpret this most wide-ranging of works. The results, we hope you will agree, provide a new set of perspectives on the fantastic material.
