Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. A bit of a variation on Hank Jones' Great Jazz Trio – at least in comparison to the group's better-known records from the Japanese scene in the late 70s and early 80s – but a variation that brings along some mighty nice changes, too! The rhythm section duo here is especially vibrant – rich basslines from Mads Vinding, and some tightly snapping drums from Billy Hart – who has this way of punctuating the tunes differently than previous drummers in the trio – creating a whole new scenario of swing for Hank to work with. Jones' piano is at the top of his gem at this point in his career – and titles on this first volume include "After You've Gone", "Summertime", "As Time Goes By", "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", "Days Of Wine & Roses", and "Prelude To A Kiss".

Jazz / Post Bop / Piano Trio

Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. A sweet trio session from Dutch pianist Dolf De Vries – a player who can be lyrical one moment, but have a nice sort of punch the next – almost the sort of soulful swing that was first showing up on the Dutch scene in the 60s! The album's got a sprightly vibe all the way through – thanks to Dolf's style – and the trio also features Frank Noya on bass and Peter Ypma on drums – both rhythm players who are well-suited to the approach of De Vries. Titles include "Bernie's Tune", "La Mer", "Comecar De Novo", "30 Square Holiday", "Love City", and "The Look Of Love".

Jazz / Bop / Hard Bop / Baritone Saxophone / Piano Trio

Reissue with the latest remastering and the original cover artwork. Comes with a description written in Japanese. We'd hate to get caught in the force of a baritone explosion – as the horns are so big, that's a lot of metal to have to deal with! Fortunately, pianist Rein De Graaf's got the proceedings here on rock-solid territory – providing just the right sort of swing to keep things moving, yet also keep things in control – while both Ronnie Cuber and Nick Brigola open up on the bigger horns – reminding us why they're some of the few players able to carry forward the deftly soulful legacies of earlier baritone greats like Pepper Adams or Serge Chaloff! The album's a live one, and tracks are nice and long – plenty of room for solos on titles that include "Caravan", "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise", "Crack Down", "Night In Tunisia", and "Blue Train" – plus two short beautiful ballads, "What's New" and "In A Sentimental Mood".

Would that it were possible to give a debut recording a higher rating. The Trio Mediaeval is a remarkable group of women from Scandanavia whose repertoire consists of contemporary works and medieval compositions, as well as Baroque church music. This recording comprises a Messe de Tournai of polyphonic mass movements from a 14th century text and is interspersed with motets and songs from roughly the same period, including a number of works from English manuscripts.

Beaux Arts Trio - Haydn: Complete Piano Trios (1997)  Music

The 1970s were heady years indeed for the Haydn collector, with complete recorded cycles of the symphonies, quartets and keyboard works and the first-ever recordings of many of the operas. Attracting less immediate attention than these boxed sets were the activities of the Beaux Arts Trio who, proceeding by stealth with one disc at a time, recorded Haydn's complete piano trios between 1970 and 1978.

Jazz / Soul Jazz / Hard Bop / Piano Trio

Reissue with the latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. Hard-hitting trio work from Ray – one of his early albums for Columbia, and the record that gave him a surprisingly big hit! "Little Susie" is one of those early 60s soul jazz standards, the kind of catchy tune that got played all over the place on radio, and which forever put the artist at the top of the list for recording dates and live sets for a few years. Ray's riding high here – with a trio that features brother Tommy Bryant on bass, and either Eddie Locke or Gus Johnson on drums – and the album's got lots of other short tracks with a similar down-home soul jazz kind of approach. Titles include "Blues For Norrie", "Big Buddy", "Greensleeves", and "If I Can Just Make It".

Jazz / Hard Bop / Post Bop / Piano Trio

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Comes with a descripton in Japanese. A wonderful trio set from pianist Cedar Walton – recorded around the same time as his excellent sessions for the Red label in Italy, and with a similar mix of groove and lyricism! The trio here features Walton's frequent and well-matched partners – the mighty Billy Higgins on drums and David Williams on bass – both players whose sense of melodic swing works perfectly with Cedar's piano, and also maybe even encourages him to have a bit more bite here than usual, especially on his attack, which creates a lot of subtle fire on the record! Titles include "Voices Deep Within", "Third Street Blues", "Magical Lady", "Short Comings", and "Bleeker Street Theme".

Swiss pianist Thierry Lang has always admired Toots Thielemans with great affection and sincerity. Thus it was only a matter of time for the two to work together. This happened when, in 1989, Toots Thielemans and the Thierry Lang Trio got together for a great concert at Cully Jazz Festival. The result was so special that the promoter of Cully Jazz Festival decided to repeat the experience the following year, something quite rare in the programming of any festival. This never-released-before-material was recorded by Radio Suisse Romande (now the RTS, Radio Télévision Suisse) and contains tracks from both events.

After Bill Charlap was "discovered" by the Japanese independent Venus Records with his wonderful debut album for the label 'S Wonderful, he signed with Blue Note. Because of the contract terms, Charlap's name can no longer apper prominently on albums he records for Venus. Hence the anonymous moniker "New York Trio". But make no mistake. This is Bill Charlap's trio. And what a trio! Veteran Jay Leonhart's bass sounds deep, lyrical and authoritative, and cutting-edge drummer Bill Stewart's surprisingly traditional drumming brings a unique tension to this group. This unusual trio has recorded six albums for Venus Records at the pace of one each year, and this is their first of the celebrated series. One of the best interpreters of the Great American Songbook, Charlap dazzles us with his beautiful touch and tone, faithful rendering of original melodies and subtle addition of modern sensibilities. Selections are mostly medium to slow tempo ballads. As the title suggests, this is clearly music for the night.
