Jack White One of the great rock conceptualists of the 21st century, Jack White came to fame as the leader of the White Stripes, the Detroit-based garage-punk duo who unexpectedly became one of the biggest rock acts of the 2000s. The White Stripes established White as a roots rocker – he made sure they covered blues chestnuts from Son House – to such a degree that his modernist art instincts were somewhat overshadowed during the band's peak. These dueling, sometimes complementary instincts, fueled White's myriad artistic pursuits both within and without the confines of the White Stripes.

1999 was a pivotal year for the White Stripes. From recording their first album through rumors of the band’s demise and embarking on their first-ever tour, the band worked extremely hard and was fortunate to see small but incremental gains from their efforts. Third Man Records is humbled to explore the depths of the band, their self-titled album and the entirety of their 1999 for our 42nd Vault package, THE WHITE STRIPES XX.

With his previous albums, 'The Situation' and 'Driving On The 44', the former Thin Lizzy guitarist and Pink Floyd and Roger Waters touring guitarist has shown that he is one of the greats when it comes to soulful, nuanced Blues Rock. On the nine tracks of his new album we once again experience the blues master in great shape. The lively opener and namesake of the album offers a promising invitation, and also makes it clear that Snowy White has once again done a great job - contrary to what the title suggests. In his inimitably reserved "understated" style, Snowy illuminates a wide variety of situations in life on the following tracks, always accompanied and commented on by his distinctive guitar playing. The result is a mature, coherent and immensely satisfying album. Snowy White has developed his very own 'English' blues style, which is characterized by clear, straightforward blues phrases that he refines with harder riffs.
