The Levin-Torn-White album saw the light of day this year (2011) via Lazy Bones Recordings, and comprises fourteen songs that make a total time of 55 minutes, worth of every listen, as you can imagine. The songs are not really long, oscillating from 1:30 to 5:30 minutes. The references to King Crimson or Yes may be obvious due to the musicians in this project, and it does have some moments that will remind you of them, however, the sound is not really what you would think. Here the experimental side of Torn’s guitars produces rich textures that give the music a different style and direction.

As both bandleader and sideman, drummer/composer Bobby Previte is well-known for his forays into New York downtown avant jazz, but how about avant blues-rock? Well, why not? Previte has never been one to shrink from challenging music, but he also seems inclined to want to have a jammin' good time more than many of his cohorts on the scene. And blues-based forms certainly seem ripe for investigation by someone with his sensibilities. After hearing Previte's "bar band" Latin for Travelers get down on Dangerous Rip, one wonders why others haven't thrown electric blues-rock into the avant jazz mix quite like this before.

On their eponymous debut album, Journey were still trying to find their signature sound. They relied too much on prog rock, filling the album with meandering jazz-rock instrumentals that never quite catch fire. Furthermore, their pop songs are ill-formed and lack hooks – in short, they are too mainstream for the progressive audience and too unfocused for the pop audience. ~Allmusic

On Rise & Shine SIMO widens their sound and is filled with slow-smoked soul ballads, psychedelic desert-rock instrumentals, hard-edged, bluesy barn burners and Stax-worthy funk rockers. "Rise & Shine" began taking shape on the road, where SIMO's three bandmates — singer, guitarist and namesake frontman JD Simo; drummer Adam Abrashoff; and bassist Elad Shapiro — spent most of 2016 on tour. They played 215 shows that year, leaving behind their Nashville headquarters and traveling to nine different countries in support of their Billboard Top 10 blues album, Let Love Show the Way.

Frank Zappa - Does Humor Belong In Music? (1986) {1995 Ryko Remaster}

DOES HUMOR BELONG IN MUSIC? was digitally recorded live with no overdubs on a 1984 tour. It is not the soundtrack to the video of the same name. Although it has some of the same songs, they are different versions.
Who better than Frank Zappa to ask the question DOES HUMOR BELONG IN MUSIC? Recorded on his 1984 world tour, this disc is a wonderful documentation of one of Zappa's best (and smallest) '80s bands. Long-time Zappa guitarist/vocalists Ike Willis and Ray White, keyboardists Alan Zavod and Bobby Martin, bassist Scott Thunes and drummer Chad Wackerman form an incredibly agile ensemble under the strict baton of their leader. Zappa himself turns in many stunning guitar solos in the midst of continuous shenanigans.

"Big Wheel" is my new album for 2020. 10 new tracks and I've added 3 tracks which were released last year on EPs or compilations… I thought I'd road test a few things, and these three came through. They've all been remixed, remastered or mucked about with in some way for this release. Everything else is brand new.As usual I've enjoyed putting this stuff together - always an adventure. I have a few new toys to play with - generally things that cost very little but make an interesting noise.. such as a new pickup on my 9.99 Oxfam acoustic, and notably a new pick-up on my very first guitar, which has waited patiently in the attic for 56 years for its chance to shine.There's a bit of an Elmore James theme running through this album, for reasons mentioned below. (And just because he was so damn good).
