"Love Is Everything", Johnny's masterful 1965 album of ballads, is finally out on CD is exciting enough, but on top of that Real Gone Music included his unreleased album of songs taken from Broadway musicals! "Love Is Everything" reunited Mathis with frequent Columbia collaborator Glenn Osser, while only a couple of tracks have ever seen release in any format from the "Broadway" album, which was recorded during 1964 and 1965.

The 4 disc set "The Legendary Decca Recordings" is a fantastic collection of 80 songs that Ella Fitzgerald recorded while at Decca records. The earliest material dates from 1938 and goes up to 1955. Let me first state that there is not a bad song in this collection. Some of what you'll hear are standards, some will be lesser known or maybe totally unknown songs, but everything is thoroughly enjoyable. The sound quality is incredible; this material is 45-60 years old, but it might as well have been recorded yesterday. I'm not kidding, it's that good.

This excellent three-disc set contains 64 great songs performed by Dizzy Gillespie and company in varied settings. Odyssey: 1945-1952 chronicles the master trumpeter in small groups, big bands, a session with strings, and also some blues. Among the rare treats on the collection are a full-fledged Gillespie big band score "Interlude (A Night in Tunisia)," performed here with the Boyd Raeburn Orchestra, where Gillespie worked for a couple of weeks at a time in both 1944 and 1945. The inimitable "Groovin' High" is played by the Dizzy Gillespie Sextet of which Charlie Parker, Cozy Cole, and Slam Stewart were members. The song is heard here as a classic bebop contrafact based on the chord progression of "Whispering," which became a million-seller for Paul Whiteman.

This latest CD from BR KLASSIK contains five great rhapsodies, devised and elaborated by very different composers from different regions, with a lot of imagination and local flavour. With his rhapsody "España" the Frenchman Emmanuel Chabrier focused on the Iberian music and folk music so popular at the time, as did his more famous compatriot Maurice Ravel with his "Rhapsodie espagnole", the four-movement structure of which still harks back to long-outdated symphonic forms. From the Hungarian-born Franz Liszt we have the famous "Hungarian Rhapsody" No. 2, and from the Romanian composer George Enescu the scarcely less famous and popular "Romanian Rhapsody".

"Aretha: With The Ray Bryant Combo" is the second studio album by American singer songwriter, Aretha Franklin, released on February 27, 1961 by Columbia Records. The album is Aretha's first release for Columbia, and is also known under its working title "Right Now It's Aretha" and sometimes simply as "Aretha". Following in the footsteps of her close friend Sam Cooke, Aretha was "discovered" by famed Columbia Records producer John H. Hammond, who on the cover notes of the 1973 edition of "The Great Aretha Franklin: The First 12 Sides" mentions, that she was in fact recommended by the composer Curtis Reginald Lewis. With the support of her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin, Aretha ventured out to New York City's Columbia Record Studios to record her debut album for the label.
