Chihiro Yamanaka is a Japanese jazz pianist and composer. She has more than a dozen recordings released under her own name, principally on the Verve label, most of which have been released internationally. As of 2012, she is based in New York City. "Reminiscence", her eighth album as leader, is packed with her unique personality, deriving from the accumulation of her years of colorful activities. She creates her unmistakable world by integrating her own swing, bluesiness, funkiness, as well as her free viewpoint towards a wide range of music genres, all in line. A contemporary jazz piano which stretches outwardly after absorbing all of the old school jazz piano - experiencing her free-spirited and full-of-personality groove is part of the thrilling joy only jazz can provide. This album seems to have a special meaning to her. The title is a reminder of the nuclear accident in her hometown of Fukushima.

Studio Mule present a re-recording of Motohiko Hamase's Remiscence, originally issued in 1986. Remiscence scores a decent prize at online vinyl-selling platforms and it is worth every penny! It's a perfect "refuge from nasty reality", as the glorious British 20jazzfunkgreats blog once said. And it comes from a man that knows his trade: bass playing. An artisan on his instrument, Hamase also wrote many theoretical books in his more than four decades-long career. In the 1970's Hamase was no stranger to Tokyo's vibrant jazz scene.

Phaesis is the name of a French Progressive rock band, coming from the Eighties underground scene. The first album "Réminiscence" (1989) is a half-instumental work, half-sung. The musicians's predominant influence is really Pink Floyd, both for the gilmouresque vocals and the lyric guitar parts. Melody is the queen here, and atmospheres are her most faithful vassals.

In seeking the right song for Reminiscence - one that would encapsulate the film’s scope and tone and capture the spirit of the movie and the characters - Joy connected with her good friend and collaborator, Grammy-nominated producer Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman. Gitelman is an incredible artist, musician, producer, and songwriter, known for his work and instrumentation for J. Cole, H.E.R., Mac Miller, and Anderson Pak. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year for his work on H.E.R.’s 2019 Album I Used To Know Her.Gitelman watched the film and immediately reached out to artist and songwriter Lonr., and the two dove into working together on a song. When Joy first heard the song produced from those sessions, “Save My Love” by Lonr. (Feat. Amber Mark), she knew the song and these artists were a perfect fit for the film. The song had the musical traits she had envisioned - an epic yet romantic quality, and a certain swagger befitting the film’s star Hugh Jackman’s character, Nick Bannister. It had the crucial features of being both catchy and “sticky” – and also connected to the film’s themes about memory and how music and songs play out in life. The instrumentation was especially key, and it fulfilled Joy’s need for an international essence in its tonalities, so as to seamlessly integrate and springboard off of the film’s striking score.
