For those of you that remember the music and song-craft of Barry White, you remember a performer that could touch the heart of an emotion, and make it stand out with a unique, often breathy, bass vocal. In the ’70s, almost everything Barry White released became an instant hit. In fact, there’s a collection of singles that achieved gold and platinum status. Of course, his albums did quite well. But most of us remember him primarily by his string of radio hits that still resonate because his voice and delivery was never replicated. Barry White’s first song, “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby” opened the door to his fame. It seemed effortless for his talent to move forward with songs like “Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up”, “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe”, “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything”, and the beautiful “Love’s Theme” instrumental hit. Those are but a few of his classic hits.

2014 three CD set. Characterized by heavy drum machine patterns and cut-throat, droning guitars, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry (The Lorries to their friends) arrived on the newly developing Goth rock scene in 1981 and immediately became indie chart regulars and fan favorites. Between 1982 and 1987 the band cut two albums and a dozen singles for Red Rhino records, all of which breached the Independent Chart's Top Twenty. Three BBC sessions (two for the legendary John Peel) were also squeezed into this period, and all of that material, including b-sides, a 7' given away with one of those albums and a song only ever recorded for the BBC, is included here. Packed with indie chart hits - two top five albums and countless top twenty singles. 53 tracks across three CDs.

Very, very few artists have reached the heights attained by Dionne Warwick and the songwriting/production team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David on their historic string of hit singles for the Scepter label. Over the course of a little over ten years, Dionne scored no less than 40 charting Pop hits and 29 charting R&B hits for Scepter, propelling Dionne to a ranking second only to Aretha Franklin among female singers with the most chart hits in the rock era, not to mention five Grammy nods. More importantly, Warwick, Bacharach, and David brought a new level of sophistication to popular music…and by doing so, created some of the most indelible recordings of all time.

Madness's first box set is a well-annotated three-CD gathering of every single A-side, B-side, and 12" bonus cut that the Nutty Boys unleashed throughout their original 1979-1986 lifespan, bolstered by a clutch of radio jingles and flexi-disc-only cuts that render this both the definitive portrait of Britain's most consistent hitmakers of their generation, and the ultimate Madness rarities collection.

A sequel of sorts to ABKCO’s three boxes of singles replicas from the mid-2000s, Universal’s The Singles: 1971-2006 is a gargantuan 45-disc box set that offers single replicas of every 45 the Rolling Stones released between Sticky Fingers and A Bigger Bang. Singles that saw release over multiple formats, whether they’re 12" dance singles or multi-format CD singles, see their various B-sides combined onto one CD, resulting in a whopping total of 173 tracks, 80 of which are “not currently available on official release.” This is a true statement but it greatly overestimates the actual number of genuine rarities here: most of these cuts are dubs, remixes, and extended versions, with only a small handful of B-sides being non-LP cuts…

Sweet (referred to as The Sweet on albums before 1974 and singles before 1975) were a popular 1970s british band.
Although Sweet were largely known for their glam rock image, and several hit singles — many of them being so-called teenage anthems — they also released several albums throughout a ten year career.

This two-CD, 40-song set includes both sides of all 20 of the singles released by Johnny Cash on Sun through 1964. (Even though Cash left the label in 1958, Sun plundered its vaults for more Cash singles for about five years, with some of the 45s doing quite well on the country charts and denting the lower reaches of the pop ones.) This is really an excuse for a compilation that's more comprehensive than the usual greatest-hits set, but more affordable and digestible than the box sets of his Sun stuff. There's nothing wrong with that, either. It's well-packaged, the music is good to classic, and it's an excellent compromise for listeners who want a lot of Johnny Cash at Sun, but not everything.
