The Best of What's Around Vol. 1, also known as TBOWA Vol. 1, is a greatest hits compilation album by the Dave Matthews Band that was released on November 7, 2006. The two-disc set is the Dave Matthews Band's first ever greatest hits album featuring twelve studio tracks on the first disc, and eight previously unreleased live tracks on the second disc.
In the spring of 2009, right before the official release of Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King, DMB embarked on a lengthy touring schedule throughout the US and Europe. New tunes like Funny the Way It Is and Why I Am made their live debut and held their own next to DMB classics such as Everyday and Rhyme & Reason, the latter featuring Joe Lawlor on electric guitar. This show from Alpharetta, GA also captures the live debut of Beach Ball and the rare, full band rendition of Rye Whiskey. The energy throughout this show feels fresh and the band was clearly ready to share new material with the fans all summer long.
The typical DMB concert during the Summer of 2014 was a little experimental. The band played two sets, the first featuring a cast of rotating acoustic performances of songs both old and new. The second set was a full fledged electric rock show. This set from the band’s stop in Tampa features unique versions of favorites from Snow Outside to I’ll Back You Up. We also get to hear some bowed bass in #27 and great percussion from Carter in the song Sweet. The second set features all bangers with the soaring vocals of So Right and the jazz explorations of Seek Up among the highlights. The evening ends with a great version of Good Good Time followed by You and Me.
For the final performance of the 2018 Summer Tour, Dave Matthews Band returned to the historic Hollywood Bowl for the first time in 6 years. The band was joined by multiple guests over the course of the evening including the addition of a string section for new album standouts such as “Here On Out” and “Come On Come On,” and an augmented horn section for a sweeping “Squirm,” and joyous “Jimi Thing” and “Shake Me Like A Monkey.” Longtime friend and collaborator, Mark Batson, makes an appearance on piano for the live debut of “When I’m Weary” and sticks around for the uplifting “Louisiana Bayou.” No matter what era you prefer your DMB tunes from, this concert has something to offer from "One Sweet World” to “She.” Add this one of a kind night to your music collection!
