In some circles, Mickey Jupp is something of a minor legend, a roots rocker with excellent taste and a cutting wit, best heard on the songs "Switchboard Susan" and "You'll Never Get Me Up in One of Those," both covered by Nick Lowe. Basher's endorsement is a clear indication that Jupp is a pub rocker, a guy who specializes in laid-back good times, so it shouldn't come as a great surprise that his first band, Legend, was proto-pub, an unabashed celebration of old-time rock & roll, filled with three-chord Chuck Berry rockers and doo wop backing vocals. Nevertheless, listening to their 1971 LP is a bit of a shock, as it's completely disassociated with anything that was happening in 1971, even with Tony Visconti enlisted as their producer. Legend's sensibility is ahead of its time in its retro thinking, pointing the way to the rock & roll revival of the late '70s and not even that similar to the country-rock of Eggs Over Easy or Bees Make Honey…

Released in 1991 on Pointblank, this audiophile treat finds the 'Hook in some very special company. Co-producers Roy Rogers, Ry Cooder and Carlos Santana (who all contribute musically on this title as well) persuaded the likes of Albert Collins, Robert Cray, John Hammond, Johnnie Johnson, Van Morrison, Keith Richards, Nick Lowe and Johnny Winter among others to join in and the result is one terrific record. This original analog recording is beautifully recorded and a highlight to the ump-teenth rejuvenation in the 'Hooks career.

Elvis Costello Reunites With Teenage Bandmate for Nostalgic LP ‘Rusty: The Resurrection of Rust’
Fifty years after their short-lived band Rusty dissolved, Costello is back with his old mate Allan Mayes for their first album together.
Last year, Elvis Costello received a letter from former bandmate Allan Mayes. Their friendship goes back to the early Seventies when they were teenagers gigging in tiny halls around England, but they split long before Costello found success on his own — and only the most devoted Elvis aficionados know of their work together.
“He wanted to remind me that it would soon be 50 years since I joined his band, Rusty, just after our first meeting at a party on New Year’s Eve, 1971,” Costello said in a statement. “He asked me if I wanted to celebrate this anniversary by getting together to play a few songs that we used to know. I said, ‘Absolutely not! Let’s make the record we would have cut when we were 18, if anyone had let us.”

In his 2015 memoir Unfaithful Music and Disappearing Ink, Elvis Costello recalled an early gig at the British Legion Hall "on the posh side of Birkenhead Park" in Birkenhead, Merseyside. "I can't say my set was a triumph," he wrote. "I went off to a round of feeble applause from a handful of pensioners supping mild beer and a smattering of teenagers in army petticoats drinking cider.

This is Mickey’s first album release of new recordings in nearly forty years. That’s quite some time. Just think what you were up to forty years ago and what’s happened to you since! He is quite often referred to as the godfather of pub rock and was once referred to as a “white Chuck Berry” by a DJ.

Plan B is the eighth album by American rock band Huey Lewis and the News, released in 2001. This was the last album to feature founding member/guitarist Chris Hayes, who performed on the album but then left after work was completed. Hayes was replaced by Oakland-born guitarist Stef Burns (Alice Cooper, Vasco Rossi, Pablo Cruise, Y&T). It was also the last News album for Ron Stallings, who died in 2009.
