If you're a big fan of early 80's punk/hardcore then this book/cd compilation is definitely for you. It explores the underground music that sprang up, then festered, in Victoria in those days. The booklet is full of old flyers and pictures and manages to shed some light on all the bands featured on the 2 cd set. The 79 tracks on here range from a few poppy New Wave bands to crude English-style punk to low-fi jambox recordings of adolescent hardcore bands like The Beaten Retards, Jerk Ward, and The Commodes. You can find some great early stuff by the Dayglo Abortions on here too. Some of the best tracks, if only for the title are: Millions of Dead BMXers, Fuckin' Jerk, Whiter Than Hitler, My Son is a Kuwahara, Too Much Drugs, etc… I love this stuff! Purity Ring have been on the cutting edge of electronic pop for so long that they still sound fresh even though five years separate their second and third albums. Instead of giving listeners more of the candy-coated sounds and hooks of 2015's Another Eternity, on Womb they go deeper into their music and the emotions behind it. Aside from "Stardew," which feels like a reprise of their previous album's confections, most of Womb is somber and searching.

The ambient electronic producer Tycho (born Scott Hansen) received a Grammy nomination in 2019 for his fifth studio album Weather, which was unusually structured and vocal-heavy compared to his prior releases. With Simulcast, a sort of instrumental companion album, the Bay Area producer comes full circle. “I wanted to show those songs through two different lenses: the vocal and the instrumental,” he tells Apple Music. “I wanted to show how a single core concept can evolve into two completely different things. It proves how powerful the process is in shaping the song.” Hansen started writing Simulcast while he was touring Weather and reflecting on the past decade of his career.
