In their debut album, early music ensemble Fount & Origin present a musical meditation on the Franco-Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden’s altarpiece image of The Last Judgement at the End of time. This multi-panelled work survives as a monument of fifteenth-century art, relating in vivid detail and colour van der Weyden’s dynamic and terrifying account of the world’s final moments. The nine polyphonic settings recorded here were composed in Europe in the mid- to late-fifteenth century and include works by composers such as Johannes Ockeghem, Johannes Regis, Johannes Martini and Antoine Brumel, with each piece thematically tied to an element or figure in the painting.

The celebration of the Easter Mystery has traditionally been considered to be the core of Christian liturgy. The Triduum Paschale, also known as the Holy Triduum or the Easter Triduum, begins on Holy Thursday and ends on Easter. Pascha is originally a Hebrew word which means transitus, or 'passage': Jesus' passage from death to life, from this world to his heavenly Father (Joh 13:1). The chants which have interpreted the prayers of the Cistercian Order for centuries may best express what an abbey community is about: the deep and unfathomable connection with earth, with man and with God.

Peter Cornelius was born to actor parents and destined from early life to have a career centred on words and music. He had early contact with the stage and dramatic literature, and like others of the time (such as Schumann), Cornelius immersed himself in German literature at an early age. At the same time he developed an interest in music. After early influences from Beethoven and Schubert, and studies of form and the composition of sacred music in Berlin, Cornelius's musical style matured under the tutelage of Liszt in Weimar.

Taking its title from a poem by 16th century Jesuit martyr Robert Southwell, Times go by Turns comprises three masses composed during a period when the conditions for English Catholics underwent radical change. New York Polyphony released its first collaboration with BIS in 2012 to international acclaim. For this disc the ensemble commissioned two modern works, with Andrew Smith contributing a Kyrie - the movement which Tallis' mass leaves out - and Gabriel Jackson providing the closing Ite missa est.

Motets is an intimate a cappella album that features stunning new choral adaptations of Jenkins's previous hit compositions, including "Agnus Dei" and the hauntingly beautiful "Benedictus." This also marks the year of Jenkins 70th birthday and fifty years of his career in music.

While much of the music has a spartan beauty (highlighted by these pristine, straight-toned performances) there are, too, some strikingly complex and florid works…Throughout, the readings are subtly nuanced to express the wide variety of texts.

Anonymous 4 -- An English Ladymass - Medieval chant and polyphony (RE-UP)

"In the six years since this female quartet astonished the music world with its clear- voiced, impeccably sung renditions of medieval chant and polyphonic music, chant rose from the dark and dusty corners of classical music to enjoy a phenomenal run at center stage.New and reissued chant recordings achieved sales figures normally reserved for popular music. This is the recording that started it all (that Spanish monks disc came later), winning awards and earning near- permanent resident status on the national charts. Spiritually moving and vocally revelatory, this program recreates a kind of mass sung in English churches during the 13th and 14th centuries. With their warm tone and perfect intonation, these four singers achieve an expressiveness that is rare among chant interpreters, most effective in the seductive, highly ornamented 'Kyrie.' The sound is exemplary–although a studio recording, it perfectly conveys the atmosphere of an English cathedral."
