On their first stand-alone record as a duo, Ken Vandermark and Hamid Drake celebrate their 30+ year playing relationship with an electrifying live set of pieces, all featuring music composed by legendary free jazz musician Don Cherry. Restricting himself here to tenor saxophone, Vandermark has developed an almost telepathic understanding with Drake, whose masterful work on the drum kit has rarely been more focused and relaxed.

The family relocated to Franklin, Indiana, when she was a small child. The Stearns were a musical family and she learned guitar and was singing locally in her early teens. In 1957, on completing her education, she became a member of the WLW Cincinnati’sMidwestern Hayride, where she remained for two years. In 1960, she became a member of Roy Acuff’s Smoky Mountain Gang. She played with them on the Grand Ole Opry and toured with Acuff as well as making solo appearances on the Louisiana Hayride. She remained with Acuff’s show until July 1965, when she was involved in the car crash that caused serious injuries to Acuff and several of his band members.

Johnny and the Hurricanes were an American instrumental rock and roll band from Toledo, Ohio, United States.

"On an afternoon of early November 2021 we set up our instruments amongst a room full of records at KOPN FM in Columbia, MO as a part of The Columbia Experimental Music Fest, presented by Dismal Niche, to play an hour of improvised music that was broadcast live to kick off the first day of the festival.

A meetings of minds and cultures well-suited to the Alasdair Roberts’ syncretic fervor: responding to the invitation of Norwegian fiddler Hans Kjorstad, he found a group of musicians well-versed in folk, jazz and free-playing.

The historical, political, geographical, ethnic, religious and cultural diversity of the human race tends to place us in pigeonholes, to constantly divide into "us" and "them".

As I write these words in Chicago during May of 2020 and look back on the week of activity in January that led to these recordings with István Grencsó and Róbert Benkő, it’s hard for me to comprehend that the tour scheduled at that time would most likely be the last series of concerts that I play in 2020. Without warning the world changed for everyone between those months, and it’s very hard to predict how things will look in the future, for music and for everything else.
