Né à Kita et fils de griot, Djelimady Tounkara s'est forgé un style unique et inimitable dès le milieu des années 70, alors qu’il évoluait aux côtés de Mory Kanté et Salif Keïta dans le mythique groupe « Super Rail Band », dont il fut co-fondateur, chef d'orchestre et soliste pendant de longues années. Autodidacte, c’est par la radio qu’il s'est imprégné des musiques afro-américaines (blues, rock, jazz), des musiques arabo-andalouses, cubaines et congolaises. Des influences qu’il a su intégrer dans sa musique.

Pamela Badjogo was born in 1982 in Libreville, Gabon, where she grew up before moving to Mali in 2005 to continue his studies microbiology. In 2007, she conquers the Malian and African public in the first edition of Case Sanga music reality TV show broadcast on the pan-African Africable chain, which she won second place. She lends her voice in the musical Kirikou & Karaba and shows on stage and in the studio as a chorister with renowned artists such as Salif Keita sides, Oumou Sangaré, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Dee Dee Bridge Water, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Matthieu Chedid or Danakil … Meanwhile, it has for four years the weekly cultural program on an Artist to Africable.

Nun müssen wir uns langsam von diesem musikalisch so vielfältigen Kontinent verabschieden und unsere Reise fortsetzen, was würde zum Abschied besser passen als Akon und „Oh Afrika“.

If one must indulge in categories, My People, featuring the Zawinul Syndicate and a United Nations coterie of guests, probably belongs on the vast world music shelf, the links to so-called jazz now so tenuous as to be nearly, but not quite, invisible. On the percolating "Slivovitz Trail," "Orient Express," "Many Churches," and the Caribbean-tinged cleverly titled "In an Island Way," the music does suggest earlier versions of the Syndicate, and Joe Zawinul's nostalgic evocations of Wayne Shorter on the Korg Pepe reach back even further. Otherwise, Zawinul is looking entirely toward ethnic cultures for musical sustenance. The musical structures are linear, the rhythms full of intricacies welded to Zawinul's love affair with the groove, the synthesizer textures usually sparer than ever.

Un simple duo balafon-piano sans électricité ?
Le piano est chromatique (octave divisé en 12 demi-tons) et le balafon diatonique (octave divisé en 7 notes).
Le piano est une percussion à cordes et le balafon une percussion à lames de bois, doté de résonateurs sous chaque lame, sous forme de petites calebasses recouvertes d’une toile d’araignée avant, et de papier à cigarette maintenant, qui font office de vibrateurs. Si une bonne partie de leur tessiture est commune, leur timbre est suffisamment différent pour ne pas se confondre, mais pour parfois se mélanger et donner l’impression d’un même instrument.
