Canadian band Piezo was formed in 2009 by Gabriel Larivière (drums), Patrick Fillion (guitars) and Jean-Francois Fournier (bass) following the disbandment of their previous band Lamentations. Later the same year François Warnet (keyboards) decided to join this new fledgling band, and when Julien Watine (vocals, guitars) joined the following year the line-up was completed. Since then they have composed and recorded material for their debut album "Scene I: Harlequin", which was released in May 2012. Sixty minutes of progressive rock await you with the first album from this emerging band. From classic prog and blues, to modern rock and metal - a very diversified, yet homogeneous sound.
One thing that must be said right from the beginning is that, for most of the tracks, it's very different to their previous collaboration 'Loops & Beats'. It is a live album, except the last piece, the tracks being taken from two performances and sound rather improvised. One of these performances was in a church and great use was made of the organ! The first track opens with chord after chord layered on top of one another but before long a sequence can be heard low in the mix. This gradually forces its way to the surface and mutates slowly throughout the piece, reminiscent of Klaus Schulze at times…
