Vibraphonist-composer Tom van der Geld’s ECM initiation came by way of the JAPO sister label when, in 1976, the self-titled Children At Play introduced listeners to an album of uncompromising originality. Recorded in 1973, the same year of van der Geld’s permanent relocation to Germany (where the band’s reedman, Roger Jannotta, and drummer, Bill Elgart, would also find new homes), it’s a formative release not only for being Children At Play’s first, but also for sharing its uniquely sunlit sound with the world at large.

Even though the members of live in the sprawling city of Atlanta, they increasingly resemble a band born and raised in the Mississippi Delta. Tom Gray's grainy voice and the way his slide guitar lines interweave with those of Delta Moon co-founder Mark Johnson give the band a rustic style that's believable if not particularly authentic. Regardless, the band has created an impressive catalog of swampy blues with rock, soul, gospel, and folk strains of with Black Cat Oil, their seventh release, another impressive entry. The approach is somewhat more stripped down with the ever-present standup bass delivering a more organic groove, especially on the title track which, with its interlocking guitars, voodoo overtones, and humid, summer's night vibe, is as good a capsulation of this group's technique as anything they have recorded……

We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Babylon Is Falling from veteran blues/rockers Delta Moon and its label Jumping Jack Records. Led by the groups two founders, singer/songwriter guitarist Tom Gray, the Roots Music Association's 2008 Blues Songwriter of the Year, and slide guitar master Mark Johnson, the album features a catchy mix of original tunes that includes spirited cover renditions of traditional American roots music like the title track and innovative takes on Marvin Gaye, Tom Petty, R.L. Burnside, and Howlin' Wold. Net Rhythms (UK) called Delta Moon's signature sound, "Music as it should be - raw and honest." We call it distinctive vocals, well-honed rhythms, and coll guitar work. Bassist Franher Joseph and drummer Vic Staff (Blueground Undergrass, Donna the Buffalo, Toubab Krewe) complete the band's recording and touring line-up. For the rest of 2018 Delta Moon has scheduled bookings in the United States, Germany, England, France, Italy, and more.
