2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the Saito Kinen Orchestra, and is commemorated with the release of this live recording of the orchestra conducted by Nodoka Okisawa at the 2024 Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival.

Together with a stunning array of collaborators, violinist Renaud Capuçon presents a compendium of works by Richard Strauss, a composer who has been central to his artistic trajectory since long before adulthood. Beginning with rather-neglected, recently-recorded gems (the Violin Concerto, Violin Sonata, Piano Quartet, and Daphne-Etude) the release continues by showcasing superb concerts from Capuçon’s past.

The dream team of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly return with over 85 minutes of some of the greatest orchestral music ever written. Continuing the critically acclaimed Lucerne/Chailly partnership launched by the world premiere recording of Stravinsky’s Funeral Song.

Akiko Suwanai (the youngest ever winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition) and pianist Enrico Pace with a programme featuring works by Strauss and Franck. The duo will also perform Hika by Tōru Takemitsu, marking the 20th anniversary of the composer’s death.

SOMM Recordings announces a major addition to the Richard Strauss catalogue with new recordings of his settings of two era-defining melodramas: the epic poem Enoch Arden by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, England’s revered and longest-serving Poet Laureate, and German poet Ludwig Uhland’s atmospheric interrogation of a traveller returning from a mysterious mediaeval fortress, The Castle by the Sea. Making their SOMM Recordings debuts are actor Christopher Kent and pianist Gamal Khamis.

How often have the three musicians of the Munich Piano Trio opened our ears with unique music! The new, the 9th GENUIN CD of the renowned ensemble is also a voyage of discovery to works that one encounters very rarely in the concert hall. And since the composer is none other than Richard Strauss (1864–1949), the credit for the musicians is even greater! We become acquainted with two youthful works, namely a piano trio from 1878 and a piano quartet from 1884. The Munich Piano Trio plays the music, which is worth listening to and masterfully composed, with verve and at the highest standard—entirely worthwhile!

After Riccardo Chailly started the RCO’s celebrated association with the Dutch National Opera with masterpieces by Verdi and Puccini, Mariss Jansons continued with unforgettable Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich productions. With brilliant performances of Verdi’s Falstaff, Daniele Gatti (then not yet as chief conductor) started a new chapter of this collaboration. Their spectacular 2017 production of Richard Strauss’ Salome is another highlight in the already impressive list.

For the German-Chilean soprano Josefine Göhmann , diversity in subject and era forms the core of her artistic interest with a stylistic range from late Renaissance to Mozart, Strauss, Messiaen and contemporary music.

Winners of the 2014 ECHO Klassik prize for their recording of piano trios by Mauricio Kagel, German ensemble Trio Imàge here present a world premiere release of chamber music by little-known 19th-century composer Hans Sommer. A contemporary and friend of Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss, Sommer established himself as a composer of Lieder and also wrote a number of operas. His instrumental works presented on this recording display an individual compositional style capable of tenderness, drama, and grace, performed with character by Trio Imàge.
