Folk Roots praised him for his "ability to crystallize a mood and evoke an era with the ease of a computer memory access, crafting perfect songs with dramatic changes in the spirit of Brecht, Bikel, and Brel."…

The centerpiece of the album is a beautiful instrumental by Taylor titled "Snowy Wood," which, while wholly original, seems to combine both Green and Clapton's influence with great style and sensibility…

Essentially an improvised extended jam session with Donald Byrd on trumpet, Red Garland on piano and drummer Art Taylor, this epitomizes Coltrane's trademark "sheets of sound".
