A multitude of classic rockers/prog rockers have united to cover the Wall in it's entirety, under the title Back Against the Wall. Led by producer Billy Sherwood, a rotating case of musicians was assembled to make anyone with a well-worn copy of Tales of Topographic Oceans drool with excitement - Yes' Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire, Alan White, and Geoffrey Downes; King Crimson's Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and John Wetton; Styx's Tommy Shaw; ELP's Keith Emerson, and Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, among countless others. Interestingly though, it can be argued that the Wall was Pink Floyd's least "progressive" album, as the group focused on tight song structures - obviously inspired by the then burgeoning new wave and punk movements. The performances are expectedly spot-on (and it's quite impressive how they re-created all the sound effects/spoken word bits so precisely), and stick very close to the originals - except for a Chris Squire-led take of "Comfortably Numb," which adds a few extra bits.

The album includes material written for GTR, 3 and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Robert Berry was in 3 with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer. Their first album was To the Power of Three, but work on a second album was aborted and tracks 3 and 9 are left over from that association. After Steve Hackett left GTR, Steve Howe planned to continue the band under a new name: 'Nerotrend' and 'Nero and the Trends' were both considered…

Released in 1971, The Polite Force is the second album by British band Egg. It is often regarded as the band’s best work and displays an advance in compositional maturity which moves away from the lingering psychedelic-pop sensibilities of their debut album toward a more avant-garde instrumental approach. The music is a fine example of early English progressive rock, bearing many similarities to Soft Machine. Although the music of Egg does have occasional singing, it is mostly instrumental and as such relies on tight ensemble playing and interesting thematic and melodic material with extended chordal harmonies and irregular time signatures.

It was inevitable that Egg would be compared with Emerson, Lake & Palmer – a trio of bass/keyboards/drums with the bassist also singing, coming along at the very end of the 1960s, incorporating serious classical influences (and directed quotations) into their extended pieces. On their second album, The Polite Force, they try for a higher wattage sound than Emerson, Lake & Palmer, without as high velocity a brand of song.

ONE OF THOSE HIDDEN PROG GEMS!!
I sometimes wonder how would sound the music of classical masters such as BACH or BEETHOVEN would they be living nowadays with our modern technology! I think TRIUMVIRAT would be the closest thing BACH for example would come up with.
