King Gizzard

From the foot tapping opener “Slow” that contains a full-on blast of Hammond and a tiny bit of reverb to the swaying King Gizzard like closer “Over & Doubt,” Australia’s Baked Beans take you for a solid psych ride on their debut LP, Babble. Baked Beans strength is their determination to hang the tempo in the middle. Most songs stay within this range as the track average almost is 4 minutes. That lets everyone do their thing with each song be it a quick guitar turn, Hammond run or just pound out a beat behind the haze. Most tracks have vocals that are somewhat hidden in the mix which I like because it gives Babble its retro vibe and modern flare all in one. Baked Beans is another can’t miss band from the surging Australian psych scene so if you have been a fan of other Flightless acts, Babble will be right in your wheelhouse.

The Australian psych-rock group returns with their King Gizzard–produced fourth LP. Comprised of four sisters, Stonefield share the Gizz’s penchant for dramatic, zoned-out riffs that take the listener far from earth, with their most recent record boasting aid from members of Black Mountain and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The first single, Sleep opens the album with guitars covered in five inches of sludge and distortion and something that sounds like a far-off siren, or the high-pitched howling of the wind. It serves as a warning, a call to arms, kicking things off with a next-level version of the massive, unholy racket the band has become known for over the course of their last three albums.

Cleveland based psychedelic rock and roll band Zip-Zapp have announced the release of their debut album. With everything from smooth and spacey jazz vamps to unhinged motorik style krautrock, the nine track full length album includes the single Ronald Raygun, released in early 2019.
