The photogenic violinist David Garrett, who uses the maiden name of his American mother professionally, has been known for crossover releases featuring the likes of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." He was trained partly in Israel, which may have led to his pairing with the nearly octogenarian conductor Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Mehta makes his aims explicit in the booklet: "I hope that this CD will help David's other public, the crossover public, to also listen to Brahms and Bruch and to admire his honesty toward this music.

Trio Isimsiz (Turkish for ‘no name’) have certainly been making themselves a name as one of the most exciting young piano trios on the classical music scene. All three members of the Trio Isimsiz enjoy great success individually. Erdem Misirlioglu was a Concerto Finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition in 2008, Pablo Hernán Benedí is a member of the Chiaroscuro Quartet, formed by Alina Ibragimova, and Michael Petrov represented the UK in the European Concert Halls Organisation Rising Star series. This is the Trio’s debut recording.

For this complete recording of Johannes Brahms' piano trios, the internationally successful Salzburg violinist Thomas Albertus Irnberger chose his usual top-class ensemble partners. Irnberger has long had an intense artistic friendship with the versatile cellist David Geringas, who, like the Russian-born pianist Lilya Zilberstein, can point to a number of recordings that are as long as they are impressive.The Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8 can be heard here in the revised version, which closes the time gap of almost 25 years to the other two trios (No. 2 in C major, Op. 87 and No. 3 in C minor, Op. 101), since the revision took place after the completion of these works and thus at the peak of Brahmsian compositional art.
For the Trio for Clarinet, Violoncello and Piano in A minor, Op. 114, Brahms envisaged the viola as an alternative instrumentation from the very beginning, which is mastered by Irnberger as brilliantly as the violin.

The American baritone John Chest enjoys a brilliant career that has already led him to Glyndebourne Festival and the BBC Proms. In partnership with the Brazilian pianist Marcelo Amaral, he presents Die schöne Magelone by Johannes Brahms. Among all the wealth of Lieder that Brahms composed, this is his only real song cycle.

This program of Western classical masterpieces from Brahms and Grieg highlight the virtuosic beauty of staple pieces in the piano solo repertoire. Programming these two composers together enables listeners to hear the similarities between these two seemingly very different classical icons.

Clarinetist Anthony McGill and violinist Rachel Barton Pine are featured soloists on a new recording of two concertos composed in response to societal injustices by Syrian composer Malek Jandali, performed by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and led by Marin Alsop, a champion of the composer’s work.

'The new album ENCOUNTER by IGOR LEVIT will be released on 11 September on Sony Classical. A very personal double album marked by a desire for encounter and togetherness. The program includes rarely played arrangements of Bach and Brahms by Ferruccio Busoni and Max Reger, as well as Palais de Mari – Morton Feldman’s final work for piano.

Mariko Senju began studying violin under Saburo Washimi at the age of three and under Toshiya Eto at the age of twelve. In 1973 she won first place in the elementary school division of the All Japan Students Musical Competition. In 1975 she performed a Bach Concerto with the NHK Symphony Orchestra for its first Young People's Concert. This marked her debut as a professional violinist.

The Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn (German: Variationen über ein Thema von Jos. Haydn), now also called the Saint Anthony Variations, is a work in the form of a theme and variations, composed by Johannes Brahms in the summer of 1873 at Tutzing in Bavaria. It consists of a theme in B♭ major based on a "Chorale St Antoni", eight variations, and a finale. The work was published in two versions: for two pianos, written first but designated Op. 56b; and for orchestra, designated Op. 56a.
