HELLISH WAR is the most ‘European’ band from Brazil! Since when the band was formed, back in 1995, its sonority is based on the 80th’s Heavy Metal made in England and Germany. While other contemporary bands were forcing a supposed renovation of the style, HELLISH WAR’s musicians were simply following their hearts playing what they most liked. Musical sincerity and devotion for the True Heavy Metal!
A pianist who has always given more attention to the shape of a melody than to the condition of his outward career, musicians' musician Bobo Stenson is suddenly ubiquitous. War Orphans finds Stenson, Anders Jormin and Jon Christensen in peak form as they rove freely through an intriguing repertoire that includes two Ornette Coleman tunes, Ellington's "Melancholia", a beautiful Cuban love song by Silvio Rodriguez, and original material by bassist Jormin and the leader.
Jimi Hendrix left behind more unreleased material than just about any other rock artist. Some tracks have rated as all-time classics ("Angel," "Izabella," "Drifting," etc.), while others should have remained in the vaults (such as the full-length albums Crash Landing and Voodoo Soup, two collections that were near-criminally touched up by then-Hendrix keeper Alan Douglas)…
Trumpeter Toshinori Kondo has achieved the most impressive blend of yesterday and tomorrow. Since his decision to apply his study of computer technology to culture in the early 70s, he has worked on diverse projects. Kondo’s work as a film and theater actor, author, and performance organizer have complemented each other to create a very personal mosaic of expression, whose pivot point has always been his music. In 1978 he went to New York, partly out of curiosity and partly to make international contacts, and stayed for five years. He quickly got into the music scene there and played with Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, John Zorn, Eugene Chadbourne, Fred Firth, and others.

MAYHEM's 'Grand Declaration of War' is one of black metal's most controversial albums. An abrupt shift away from black metal orthodoxy, 'Grand Declaration…' veered sharply in a progressive and dissonant direction that split the scene asunder. Newly remixed and remastered under the watchful eye of Hellhammer and Blasphemer at Orgone Studio with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Primordial, Cathedral, Oranssi Pazuzu), and featuring new art from Glyn Smyth (Unearthly Trance, Rose Kemp), the polarizing GDOW can be experienced anew. Revisit this genre classic that informs the direction of these titans to this day, and casts a shadow over the scene at large.
